“The Truth About Leo”

The Truth About Leo” is a deeply moving and heart-warming story for adults and children – about fathers and sons, addiction and recovery, and the transforming power of love.

“Writing this book is the most important thing I have ever done”, says David.  “I was compelled to write it although at times it was an intensely painful experience. Though this book is a fiction and I am not the father in it, he is the man I nearly was. Like him, I fell victim to alcohol. There came a time when it controlled me and nearly killed me.”

Sarah Hughes, Publishing Director of Puffin Fiction, explains how she was moved when she first read the manuscript:

The Truth About Leo has had a tremendous impact on me.  Simple, direct and affecting, it is a story told completely from the heart and with great honesty and understanding.  I found it extremely powerful both as a reader and as a mother.  David draws you in to Leo’s world with great skill and sensitivity, revealing what it can be like for a child to live with a parent who drinks too much.  And yet, with all that Leo goes through, it’s an enormously positive novel, full of hope.  It’s a compelling story, written for children, but one that will appeal to adults too.”
