Redhammer is pleased to announce a new book deal for our client Martin Bell OBE to write THE TRUTH THAT STICKS:NEW LABOUR'S BREACH OF TRUST. Says Peter Cox: "This will become the definitive epitaph for the wasted years and broken promises that has come to symbolize Tony Blair’s legacy: Martin is no shrill polemicist, and his judgement is all the more damning for being so carefully weighed and forensically delivered." Martin’s biography is here , and the publisher’s press release is below.

For immediate release:

Icon Books Acquires Martin Bell

Simon Flynn, Publishing Director of Icon Books has acquired Martin Bell’s new book, The Truth that Sticks: New Labour's Breach of Trust, from Peter Cox at Redhammer.

In The Truth That Sticks Bell dissects New Labour’s decade of scandals from Bernie Ecclestone to David Blunkett; explores Labour’s contempt for democracy, electoral reform and cash-for-peerages; attacks the illegal and utterly disastrous decision to go war in Iraq and the short-sighted, militarily naïve one in Afghanistan. He berates the government for its maltreatment of soldiers and the faith-based foreign policy directing their deployment. He reserves special opprobrium for Labour’s outrageous failure to ban weapons such as cluster bombs – a campaign with which Bell was intimately involved.

Bell had meetings with a number of publishers but was impressed by Icon’s “independent spirit and vigour”. Simon Flynn comments:

“We’re thrilled to be publishing Martin Bell’s new book, coming at such a crucial time for the Labour government. Acquiring The Truth that Sticks illustrates Icon’s growing strength as a publisher of topical political titles.”

Martin Bell is one of the most distinguished foreign affairs reporters of his generation who went on to steal the show in the 2001 general election with his anti-sleaze battle against MP Neil Hamilton. Bell won the safe Conservative seat at Tatton with an 11,000 majority.

Icon will publish The Truth that Sticks in September and Bell will undertake an extensive media campaign and bookshop tour. Colman Getty has been appointed to sell serial and devise the media campaign.

Icon is part of the Independent Alliance led by Faber of like-minded independent publishers - Canongate, Atlantic, Profile / Serpent's Tail, Short Books and Quercus. Sales queries for The Truth that Sticks should go to Faber reps or their sales office - 0207 465 0045 / sales@faber.co.uk. -
