Novelist, journalist, actress and broadcaster, Amanda Lees is equally at home on Richard & Judy’s couch or writing powerful drama for younger readers.

Amanda was born in Hong Kong and survived both a convent boarding school and subsequent incarceration at a Jesuit boys’ school before being summarily ejected for reasons too nefarious to mention. A onetime stand-up comedian, she teaches presentation skills to authors and conducts workshops on story and dramatic form for children.

An actress and broadcaster as well as a novelist, Amanda appears regularly on BBC radio and LBC and was a contracted writer to the hit series WEEKENDING on Radio 4. She has conducted a love coaching phone-in from the sofa of Richard & Judy and wooed the viewers on Channel 5 Live. She won an award at the Hungarian Film Festival for a short film she produced called PROs AND CONs and has a number of film and television projects currently in development, including a major new series in conjunction with Talent TV based on a forthcoming series of books for older children.

She has written for, or contributed to, The Evening Standard, The Times, New Woman, US Cosmopolitan and Company Magazine and has published two non-fiction titles, SEX MAGIC and E-MAGIC, under the name Amanda Craven. Formerly a resident of New York, Amanda now lives in London with her partner and daughter.

On the first day of the Frankfurt Book Fair, Redhammer announces a major children deal for Amanda with Piccadilly Press. KUMARI: GODDESS OF GOTHAM is the first in a three-part series that introduces a big new children's character: Kumari. Says Piccaddilly's Publisher & Managing Director Brenda Gardner: "We love Kumari and this is absolutely right for the Piccadilly list. She has the zeitgeist of today's young girls and is certain to appeal to an international audience. Adds Peter Cox: "Kumari is certainly one of the most exciting new publishing properties I've seen in the past couple of years: I will be enthusiastically selling film rights at proof stage."
